A lifestyle approach to transformation of the urban environment is necessary
It is all about mass-individualism and it is clear that the present housing stock and business premises do not adequately address the changing demand and supply, nor the new networks and clusters that develop. A lifestyle approach to transformation of the urban environment is necessary as there is a discrepancy between supply and demand. Due to greater economic wealth, individuals have developed higher standards of quality and a need for bigger units. The traditional family dwelling hardly addresses the need of the more diversified households of today. The same goes for commerce. Industries and businesses are increasingly focussing on their core business, thereby coming to function within a network of complimentary businesses and developing new, more complex groupings. There are not enough industries and business premises that address the new needs.
