ReUrbA contribution is used for studies and consultancy

Where's the money coming from?
Project funding comes mostly from three sources: the City Council itself, the Housing Market Regeneration Pathfinder and ReUrbA (the ReUrbA contribution is used for studies and consultancy).

The Housing Market Regeneration Pathfinder, an initiative of the Deputy Prime Minister's Office (ODPM), is one of nine schemes in the North and the Midlands aiming to address low demand in the housing market. The current housing market regeneration fund is providing over £500 million for the nine schemes. The initial fund will run until March 2006. The Newcastle/Gateshead HMR Pathfinder, called 'Bridging NewcastleGateshead', received £73 million.

Each Pathfinder enters into a performance and funding agreement (a quasi-contract) with the ODPM on the basis of an agreed strategic plan. When considering plans, the ODPM and Ministers will take into consideration the independent scrutiny by the Audit Commission, a non-departmental public body responsible for ensuring that public money is used economically, efficiently and effectively.

Organisation
The regeneration Project Manager is Mr. Rob Moore. Due to a reorganisation, the project is now part of the newly formed Regeneration Directorate.

Bridging NewcastleGateshead co-operates closely with the City Council. Mr. Andrew Sloan is Bridging's Development Officer, with responsibility for projects in the West End.

Since 2000, the Scotswood Joint Working Group has met every month to discuss project progress. The Group consists of local residents (both owner-occupiers and tenants), a Scotswood/Benwell Ward Councillor and Council officers.

Resident representation is three-tiered: the Joint Working Group addresses the strategic regeneration of the area; a Scotswood Housing and Environmental Forum (SHEF) addresses the day-to-day-delivery of housing and environmental services; within the SHEF, Councillors, City Council officers and relevant Housing Associations cooperate with local Tenant and Residents' Groups in Scotswood.

For the planning and delivery of the West End Regeneration Projects, organisational arrangements will be set up to allow the effective involvement of residents, developers and other key stakeholders.
