The importance of regeneration |

The city
The underlying vision is of a city characterised by mixed use and high density. 'We must try to get the people back into the city; try to make it a liveable city again. We need to create space for pedestrians that cars have occupied in the last decades.' If people move out to a large area, there is no communication, no interaction, no exchange, no more meeting people by coincidence. The alternative to urban regeneration is deceleration. Living in the countryside or in a suburb means routine: a planned life dominated by transport because culture is a one-hour drive away. Living in the city means leading a life full of coincidence and surprise, where culture is available close to hand |
