Ageing and impoverishment more and more of a problem
More and more companies are leaving the Spaanse Polder, together with their workforces. They usually leave behind old business premises in disrepair. Those buildings are often built for a specific purpose and so new companies cannot move in straightaway.

The result is that a building will stay empty, before switching in the course of time to another type of economy: small car companies or party centres. The neighbours get upset and, when they leave too, a vicious circle is created with disastrous consequences for the image of the whole area. If a feeling of insecurity is also created, the situation goes from bad to worse. The course of events can be compared to what happens in impoverished post-war residential neighbourhoods.

Fortunately, the Spaanse Polder business park is quite big so the problems are not as severe throughout the park as a whole. There are also large sections that are still very vigorous and grateful use is made of them for the restructuring work.
