Phillipa Boardman (project manager St. Paul’s Church):
‘It enabled us to hire expertise’
First and foremost the money of ReUrbA was essential, says Phillipa Boardman, the project manager of St. Paul’s church. ‘It enabled us to engage the experts and consultants we could never have hired ourselves. We had the energy, we had the people, but not the expertise. I think without ReUrbA St. Paul’s Church would not have happened.’
‘What we have brought into the ReUrbA project, I think, is a lot about governance. The notion that you have to draw on the energy of the local people.’
St. Paul ’s Church has set an example for other projects dealing with the transformation of churches and other historic buildings. The St. Paul’s team has advised on a number of similar projects in Amsterdam.
‘And on a personal level’, says Philippa Boardman, ‘ReUrbA has enabled me to do a lot of things that normally do not happen to a priest. Like visiting all these European countries and making nice contacts.’
